Delphi
Update – June 19, 2006
To: All General Motors and Delphi Local Union
Presidents and Chairpersons
From: UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and UAW Vice
President Cal Rapson
Motion
to Approve Attrition Supplement
Today
Delphi will file a motion with the Bankruptcy Court
requesting entry of an order approving the UAW Special
Attrition Program Agreement Supplement. The Court is
expected to hold a hearing on June 29 to consider approving
Delphi’s participation in the Supplement.
It is
important to note that while the UAW supports the Supplement
and Court approval of the program, the motion filed today
will be Delphi’s Motion – not the UAW’s. As such, and as
with the prior pleading Delphi has filed with the Court, it
will likely contain statements and characterizations about
the Company’s operations, finances and labor agreements with
which we strongly disagree. The UAW will file a statement
with the Court emphasizing our support for Court approval of
the Supplement while also making clear our continued
position on these matters.
If
approved by the court, an application period for the
Supplemental Attrition Agreement options will be
established.
The June
23, 2006 deadline for applications for the March 22 Special
Attrition Program is unchanged.
Because of
the unique circumstances and the possible overlap of
application dates GM and Delphi agree that at the point the
Supplement is rolled out to the Delphi workforce, it will
also be available to Delphi employees who have selected an
option from the March 22nd Special Attrition
Program. This includes employees who have already retired
or entered the pre-retirement program.
If an
employee who has already selected an option from the Special
Attrition Program and the 7-day revocation period has
expired, the selection of one of the two options from the
Supplement will be subject to a new 7-day revocation
period. The employee will revert back to the March 22nd
Special Attrition option if he/she then changes his/her mind
during that 7-day period.
